Morristown/Saddle Brook, N.J.WithumSmith+Brown (Withum) PC’s Matt Basilo, senior marketing coordinator, has earned a nomination from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s New Jersey Chapter for its annual Man of the Year honor. Based in the firm’s Morristown office, the Saddle Brook, N.J., resident is a social media strategist and provides niche development and dedicated marketing assistance to the Manufacturing, Distribution & Logistics service group as well as the Risk Advisory and Mortgage Banking groups.

A graduate of Rutgers University, where he majored in English and minored in communication, Basilo also is responsible for maintaining and expanding the Withum 300 Health & Fitness Program and spearheads the firm’s annual outreach event known as Withum Week of Caring. In addition to his efforts to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society/New Jersey Chapter, he has been involved with the Volunteer Center of Bergen County Bike Tour since 1995 and the Special Olympics 2014 USA Games, where he was an organizer of the flag football event.

“We commend Matt on earning this distinction and, collectively, look forward to helping him achieve his goal of honoring a local child, who is a blood cancer survivor, by raising the most funds in his or her name,” said Kirk V. Holderbaum, CPA, partner-in-charge of Withum’s Morristown office. “His efforts and commitment to helping combat blood cancer and supporting its youngest patients is truly admirable.”

Jana Boyer, the society’s executive director, added, “Congratulations to Matt and all of our 2017 candidates and campaign team members who will participate in this year’s campaign. They are all passionate and determined individuals, and leaders in their communities. Their efforts will really go far in bringing help and hope to patients and their families.”

During a spirited 10-week fundraising period that begins Tuesday, April 4th, candidates across the country compete to raise the most funds earmarked to combat blood cancer. Candidates and their campaign teams will be judged solely on their success in raising money, each dollar counting as one vote. Their totals are then considered for the national title.

Candidates in each chapter vie for the local title, and the highest fundraisers nationally earn the title of National Man & Woman of the Year. The national titles will be announced next summer. In total, all of the candidates are expected to raise over $400,000 thanks to the support of their campaign teams and community.
